Icon

Alan has been spending his Sundays in Chester recently learning the fine and contemplative art of icon painting. Here is his first piece, an archangel - Gabriel I believe:

Isn't this just the most beautiful of things? Well done that artist.

PS The hunting dog, whose name also happens to be Chester, is inexplicably fascinated by this little picture. His big hunting nose scents the air as he passes by. We wonder if it is something to do with the egg tempra and some residual eggy smell.

How very talented your artist is!. Some of the really ancient icons are so beautiful, you can see why they are colectors pieces.

That's great. I'd like to learn to do that.

That is absolutely gorgeous - I adore icons, always have....how incredibly talented. As is Tom Bevan.....phew.
I have been catching up - and hadn't realised quite how far behind I'd fallen.. Loved your trip to London and the tales of the poor sheep (now looking very pert).... and Christmas and all.
I would LOVE to come and see you and Elizabeth and SBS....and it WILL happen one of these fine days....
In the meantime, I wish we had icon classes down here.....(serious icon envy!)

At first I thought this was a photo of the original piece, but then I read that the dog could smell the egg tempera..and was stunned! You've got quite the artist there!!

And - from reading further back - You've got sheep!! Sigh - I love wool - and am insanely jealous of people who own sheep - silly isn't it?

Gosh, that is very beautiful, well done that artist. Re the colour consultation, Tom was absolutely scathing about it too!

This is great. Do I detect a slight manga influence in the over-sized eyes and tiny rosebud lips?

Beautiful dreamy eyes. What a lovely thing to do - learning how to paint an icon.
