Thank you. What a kind thought.

Would I like tickets to see La Traviata at the Royal Opera House? The mail-shot was enticing - and addressed to me. Of course I would - La Traviata is a favourite of mine. A Celebratory Dinner in the Paul Hamlyn Hall, in the company of the cast and artistic staff, is part of the package. Tempting?

Sadly at £950.00 per ticket I shall have to decline - what with buying two - as undoubtably Alan would want to go as well, plus a hotel and 2 train fares - well it's just a little beyond my pocket this week....

Yes, you did read that correctly - that's £950.00 per ticket. Blimey. I'm lost for words.

Would you be able to manage another two? The Great Dane and I would fly over if you'd treat to the show!

Oh yes please.....maybe we could get a coach together from the area. Count Twiglet and me in on the numbers when you buy the tickets :-)

actually you and Al could come to Brisbane and see 'La T' for much the same amount :)

I suggest you round up the local talent & put it on at your local village hall. You'd save on train fare then too.

I could have my nephew the opera tenor give you a call and belt out an aria or two instead?.... good grief...who do they think would buy those tickets? as a matter of fact for that price I'm betting you could have him come directly to your front room....

Great offer but whom are they directing it at. You could always try the trick of offering them what you can afford - even though it may be a fraction of what they are asking.
If they have booked space then anything they get in is worthwhile.
You never know. You might catch a bargain.

... perhaps they thought you were a retired banker?

I love Fennie's advice. I don't think I'd have the brass neck to ring up and ask for two tickets for a tenner though.
