Did I put out a call for eggs only a day ago?Today in the nest box, on a bed of straw, hunkered up against the inspirational 'pot egg' was the sweetest little brown egg. This is the first from the new hens; one of the Blue Marans has come into lay. Hopefully it will be the first of many.
The Cream Legbars should be next - that'll be blue eggs from little brown hens....

How delicious! I so want to keep chucks, I almost have to avoid yours and Elizabethm's chicken stories in case I develop a severe case of Chicken envy!
I assume it was consumed with some soldiers and had a rich yellow oak? :)
We have had our first egg from the new white Wyandottes (looking like rather mucky Wyandottes today).
LOVE your hens.... so envious of them... will you have Silkies or those that lay blue eggs.. the name escapes me and the book isn't to hand...?
